Tiomila 2010

Tiomila is over, and our team finished 32th.

Waking up at 1 a.m., I asked the traditional question : “How’s the team going?”. When I heard that the team is in the lead, just some seconds behind Nordberg on the 3rd leg, my next question was “What about the second team?” – but the reallity was that my teammates on KOK-2 ran really good and we were among the best 10 teams in the middle of the race.

I ran the 7th leg, and got a good starting position as nr.17.  The 7th leg was supposed to be kind of middle distance, and it was exactly like that. I started together with Delta’s first team, but after the first control we split our routes. The rest of the course I was running all alone – me against the Swedish forest.

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel as strong as I wanted, and the tactics “Let the orienteering control the pace” was not exactly the best one there. I ran too passive through the course, and made some small mistakes on my way. The biggest one (more than a minute) was straight after the new open area which wasn’t marked on the map. I knew about it, but I didn’t manage to understand the situation in the forest.

I came to the change-over as nr.20. The team finished on the 32th place, which made us the next-best second team in Tiomila. This is also my best ever Tiomila result, so after all I’m happy with the trip to Sweden. Well done by all my teammates on the second team (the first team doesn’t need to hear that – they are always doing well in big relays, so their performance wasn’t surprising to me).
