NORT – kort oppdatering

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

ASAP!

Holmenkollstafetten 2010

Saturday, May 8th, 2010
Holmenkollstafetten is the biggest relay in the world. It’s organised through the streets of Oslo – from Bislett Stadion to Holmenkollen and back. The relay consists of 15 legs with different length and type – from short legs on track to long legs in steep hills. This year’s edition had over 1900 teams in the different classes.
.
I’ve been thinking about running the Holmenkollstafetten for a while, but never did it. This year I got the opportunity to represent the local track and field club – KIF, in the Elite-class. The big surprise came with the team selections, where they put me on the last leg.
.
The team ran stable, and was keeping a top-5 place after 10 legs. When I took over the baton, the team was on the 9th place. The last leg is 650 m long, and starts just outside Bislett Stadion. It consists of 100 m on road, and the rest is on the track.
.
I tried to push as hard as I could, but my feet weren’t fast enough for such a sprint. On the last leg I ran against some of the best 400m runners in Norway (among them the Norwegian champion on 400m).
.
I lost two positions in the last 150 m, and the final result for out team was the 11th place, 2:55 behind the winners Tjalve. On my 650 m, I lost more than 20 seconds to the best sprinters. Kind of disappointing. The distance to the 5th team in the results was no more than 31 seconds. If I could only run a bit faster …
.
But I never even dreamed about running on Bislett Stadion, the place where the Golden League takes place each year! It was an experience of a lifetime! Thanks KIF for giving me this opportunity!

Tiomila 2010

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Tiomila is over, and our team finished 32th.

Waking up at 1 a.m., I asked the traditional question : “How’s the team going?”. When I heard that the team is in the lead, just some seconds behind Nordberg on the 3rd leg, my next question was “What about the second team?” – but the reallity was that my teammates on KOK-2 ran really good and we were among the best 10 teams in the middle of the race.

I ran the 7th leg, and got a good starting position as nr.17.  The 7th leg was supposed to be kind of middle distance, and it was exactly like that. I started together with Delta’s first team, but after the first control we split our routes. The rest of the course I was running all alone – me against the Swedish forest.

Unfortunately, I didn’t feel as strong as I wanted, and the tactics “Let the orienteering control the pace” was not exactly the best one there. I ran too passive through the course, and made some small mistakes on my way. The biggest one (more than a minute) was straight after the new open area which wasn’t marked on the map. I knew about it, but I didn’t manage to understand the situation in the forest.

I came to the change-over as nr.20. The team finished on the 32th place, which made us the next-best second team in Tiomila. This is also my best ever Tiomila result, so after all I’m happy with the trip to Sweden. Well done by all my teammates on the second team (the first team doesn’t need to hear that – they are always doing well in big relays, so their performance wasn’t surprising to me).

Check out the map with the GPS-tracking in my map archive.

Tiomila next

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Early tomorrow morning we’re flying to Sweden, where the teams will take part in the first important relay this year – Tiomila.

I’m going to run the 7.th leg on KOK’s second team, and I’m looking forward to it! The first team is All Stars, but the second is also a strong one, with 5 Tiomila winners in the team. According to the schedule, I’m heading into the forest at ca. 4:30-4:40 a.m., so stay tuned :)

The Tiomila preparations went with many ups and downs, for example the last couple of days: On Saturday I ran the local Torridalsløpet, where I didn’t manage to find the flow, and my legs were heavy from the begining. With almost 10 minutes of mistakes, I nearly lost my faith one week before Tiomila. Fortunately, I made a great run on the night training yesterday, where I felt I mastered the Kvåse-terrain for a very first time (after 3.5 years of trying).

I’ll try to post some Twitter-updates from Sweden.
